The George Frederick McKay Estate is happy to provide an insight into the many compositions and publications of Professor McKay through the listings in this site. We hope to give access to both his current music publications in print through the estate or by referring interested persons to traditional commercial music publishers that still carry some McKay titles. A growing number of McKay's works have been engraved and are now offered in printed volumes by our family, and they can be found on this website. Many of these compositions are now recorded for the first time in conjunction with the American Classics Series through NAXOS Records.
We can also arrange to send out manuscript copies of original works that have not been printed. Questions concerning the availability of specific pieces and custom bindings can be answered by email at classic2050@msn.com. It is helpful to note that McKay composed many wonderful pieces specifically for youthful musicians. Many of these works are mainly for educational purposes, however several of the folkloric orchestral pieces for young people have been performed by professional symphony orchestras in the concert halls of the great cities of our nation, notably at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
Please access the areas of interest you may have by clicking on category headings and finding lists attached to those general types. One other special note of interest is that George Frederick McKay's books on Orchestration and Harmony have been published in new editions by the estate; these can be found in the "printed music and books" page of this site. Payment can be made through Paypal.com via classic2050@msn.com.
McKay was an especially prolific composer, who worked with a wide variety of instrumentations and vibrant themes ranging from symphonies to solo pieces, and our purpose is to help carry on his contribution to American culture into the 21st Century and beyond by making available the hundreds of wonderful compositions he created.
